This week the session was held in a small room or I would have done a few drawings in different positions just for a change. I decided instead to concentrate on the two areas that I find most difficult, the knees and the face. I don't like the face when it's on it's side and the skin is being pulled in strange ways so I didn't spend so much time on that but I was happy with the way the knees, and the thighs, turned out. I worked a little bit on the skin around the tummy to show how it dimpled and folded.

Another drawing of the Mermaid Vine. I was trying not to make it look too similar to the last one but it just developed like this! I'll try it again and try and keep it the shading to a minimum.
I was feeling quite good about doing some sketching in public a couple of days ago so after coming home I went out onto my balcony to sketch this Forest Flame. It was a lovely warm sunny afternoon.
I bought this Passion Flower on the way home. I was intending to draw the mass of leaves but the new shoots and tendrils caught my eye.

A sketch of one my favourite houseplants. I started with an 8B pencil, thinking it could look really nice and loose, but I found the lines too heavy and regular so I switched to a 2B to give the lines some variation. I didn't plan any composition, I just added leaves and let it work itself out. I think I'll try a few more like this.

The sketch and the finished drawing, although to be honest it was done a bit quickly and I haven't really spent too much time polishing it off so it looks a bit grainy. HB and 2B pencil in my favourite square Winsor & Newton sketchbook.
